About Joan Peterson

Joan represents clients in all areas of family law.  Joan is committed to a family law practice that focuses on seeking positive resolutions that are in the best interest of children and families. She is an experienced attorney and litigator with a strong record of public service. Joan worked at the Travis County District Attorney’s office for 18 years, where she led a team of attorneys representing the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services in cases involving abuse and neglect of children and worked as a prosecutor in juvenile court.  She has worked with social work and therapeutic professionals to present testimony in complex termination of parental rights and custody issues while focusing on the best interest of the child.

Joan works to bring balance and provide clear judgment in emotionally complex cases. Joan has experience negotiating difficult cases as an attorney and a mediator.  She is committed to providing compassionate representation and helping clients find the best solutions for their cases.

She a native of Montana, went to Law School at Lewis and Clark Northwestern Law school in Oregon and moved to Texas, where she raised her family.  She loves to travel, practice yoga and spend time with her family and her sweet dog, San.
